Hey, Darius– I was there this Sunday too– it was packed in a way I hadn’t seen it packed in a long time, particularly with the rain. We, too, had a little bit of a wait. I honestly think they were overwhelmed with the attention, when the prior weekend was really slow.

As far as the cleanliness, simply asking your server to wipe the table will cure that problem. It’s usually not a problem– and I eat there nearly every Sunday.

To all who offered congratulations and wishes to the Tucker family, thank you. I have read each of your comments to Joe and Carla. They asked me to express their appreciation to each of you for your interest and support. This blog is not a restaurant review site, nor is there anything scientific about what I choose to write about or when I choose to write. I write about things that move me when I feel like writing. Darius, perhaps your comment would be more appropriate on Wine Me, Dine Me as a comment to this post or the review post linked therein. It will get appropriate exposure and reaction there. That having been said, I will respond to one aspect of Darius's comment. The facilities at Tucker's are, first and foremost, old. And they look their age. The other thing those facilities are is clean. I can personally attest to the effort the Tuckers make every day to assure that old equipment, building and contents are scrupulously clean.

I went for the first time this weekend, and while the shrimp & grits were pretty good, I was a bit disappointed in the cleanliness of the place. Our table was not wiped off (and I noticed that others who sat down near us had the same problem). This is a big deal for many people, but it can be easily remedied. Also, as an FYI to anyone who has not yet dined there, be prepared for a leisurely-paced meal. With only one cook in the tiny kitchen, it takes a while to prepare things. We sat for nearly 45 minutes before we received our food. Perhaps they misplaced our order? I’m not sure, but I did notice that a few people who sat down after us got their food before we did.
